Hydrolases of Developing Worker Brood and Newly Emerged Worker of Apis Mellifera Carnica

چکیده

Previously published data concerning honey bee metabolism, dealt mainly with adult specimens. In most cases, biochemical changes connected with the polyethism of Apis mellifera worker bees were described (Costa and Cruz-Landim, 2005; Elekonich and Roberts , 2005; Roberts and Elekonich, 2005). Little is known about the changes in the metabolism in successive developmental stages of brood (see Hrassnigg and Crai lsheim, 2005). Schmolz et al. (2005) calorimetrically studied the energetics of developmental stages of worker brood and drone brood. Based on this research technique, they indirectly assessed the general rate of brood metabolism. Previous studies were done on the drone brood (Żó ł towska et al., 2007; Lipiński et al., 2008), based on the activity of enzymes and carbohydrate contents. The assumptions of the above authors (Schmolz et al., 2005) concerning significant lowering of the metabolism rate in prepupae stage and of reduced utilization of sugars in favor of lipids in drone pupae, were confirmed. The aim of this work was to investigate the changes in the enzymatic system in 12 developmental stages of worker brood and newly emerging bees. The API ZYM test, which enabled the simultaneous estimation of the activity of the 19 hydrolytic enzymes was used. These enzymes belong to the esterases, glycosidases, and proteinases. Determination of their activity means that an assessment can be made of the changes in their ability to decompose and metabolize lipids, sugars, and proteins in ontogeny of worker brood.

The Activity of Carbohydrate-Degrading Enzymes in the Development of Brood and Newly Emerged workers and Drones of the Carniolan Honeybee, Apis mellifera carnica

The activity of glycogen Phosphorylase and carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes α-amylase, glucoamylase, trehalase, and sucrase was studied in the development of the Carniolan honey bee, Apis mellifera carnica Pollman (Hymenoptera: Apidae), from newly hatched larva to freshly emerged imago of worker and drone. Phosphorolytic degradation of glycogen was significantly stronger than hydrolytic degrada...

Development of Varroa jacobsoni in colonies of Apis mellifera capensis and Apis mellifera carnica

Honey bee colonies (Apis mellifera carnical, infested with Varroa jacobsonl were de-queened and divided into 2 subunits. Each pair of subunits were requeened with an inseminated A m capensis and A m carnica queen. The development of the mite population was monitored by determining the number of mites in samples of brood, and worker bees, and lhe number of dead mites on the bottom board of the h...

Heritability of the postcapping stage in Apis mellifera and its relation to varroatosis resistance

Aasrancr: Two African races of the honey bee (Äpis mellifera capansis and A. m. scutellatal have a signilicantly shorter postcapping stage of worker brood than A. rn. carnica. An average within-race heritability of this character is estimated as h2 = 0.8. Reciprocal crosses between the races show that the duration of the postcapping stage also is maternaffy affected (m = 0.23). As the reproduct...

مطالعه مرفولوژیک زنبور عسل معمولی (Apis mellifera L.) در ایران

The first step in fundamental breeding of any living organism is the determination of its genetic make-up.
